Seaman Reservoir ....

is located on the North Fork of the Poudre River about a mile above its confluence with the Poudre River at Gateway Natural Area. There is no driving access directly to the lake, park at the Fort Collins Gateway Natural Area.

There is a fee and the gate is open dawn to dusk. The hike to the reservoir takes about 20-30 minutes up an access road along the North Fork. Rattlesnakes are plentiful, so be cautious. Access is possible from Colorado Highway 14 (Poudre Canyon), but lengthens the hike substantially. It is a great place to go for a moderate hike and fish the rivers along the way.
The lake does well for a variety of species, especially perch and green sunfish. The state record yellow perch measuring 2 lbs., 9 oz. and 13.63 inches was caught in Seaman Reservoir in 2007. Seaman also contains some large bullhead catfish, a fairly uncommon species regionally.

Rainbow and brown trout, being part of the river system, make their way into the reservoir. Occasionally large specimens are caught. CDOW has stocked rainbows since 2004.
In June 2008, the city of Greeley was forced to empty Seaman due to problems with three of the five gates at the bottom of the dam. As a result there was a massive loss of fish and it will likely be several years before the reservoir's fishery fully recovers.

Anglers should be aware that the repairs were not completed with the 2008 drawdown and another will be necessary in the next few years.
Getting there: From Fort Collins, go north on Hwy 287 to Hwy 14. Go 5.2 miles
west on Hwy 14 to Gateway Natural Area. It's about a mile hike from the parking lot to Seaman Reservoir.
Fees: Gateway Natural Area has a $5 day use fee.
Boating: None. The only rule Greeley has imposed on its reservoirs is no
gas engines. Electric trolling motors, float tubes etc are fine. Hand launch only.
 Special Regulations: None
 Ice Fishing: Permitted
OHV: No public vehicle access or use at the reservoir
