Veggies Start Planting

31 August 2013, in Gardening 2024

Tomatoes and peppers: Many people may think they do not have time to grow these garden
favorites. Pick yourself a nice variety and if your space is limited then simply plant them in pots, or
raised beds. When you purchase your seeds or plants simply ask if they grow well in pots. So far,
so good. Plant your seed indoors 6 to 8 before planting time outside. All I really want to see is people
start planting. Questions please ask.

Our government is trying to get it's population not to do these things for them selves, so they will be
dependent on you know who.

Well over 200 Lbs of veggies so far!

Until next time,
Keep your feet dry, your line wet and your Wife or Hubby Happy!

Chicken Newbie

06 May 2013, in Raising Chickens

Hi,

The Fun Begins!
Thumbs Up We purchased 16 baby chickens and will try to show anyone wanting to do this how easy it
really is. With a little hard work your chickens will be happy and safe. We had a small area for the
chickens so by the time they were ready for the outdoors they were ready. We insulated our
whole coop.

Our chickens will be able to free range on our 10 acres but their inside enclosed area is 8x8 and
the fenced area for them will be 8x16. We will have to keep an eye on them when out. We have
many predators and don't won't anything happening to them.

We did not lose a single chick so if you have questions about raising them please don't hesitate
to ask. You don't have to post just send us a email and we would be happy to help you.

Before I even begin I know this is a over kill on building a chicken coop. But this
is how we built our coop.
You have to dig the holes. So here are the holes and
a few more pics just to get the ball rolling. Really the hardest part was digging the
holes.

WOW! We started the framing. When you do this part make sure it is square so that all the
rest of your build goes well. Treated lumber buried in the ground so that they don't rot.

We are on are way to raising chickens. It's a lot of work but well worth it. We have the
insulation on the floor here. Don't want are baby's getting cold in this Colorado weather.

Insulation!

Major over kill but we have a lot of predators in our area and they are not getting our baby's. Next
is the framing of sides and nesting area. Out side view here with inside following.

Outside of nesting area.

Inside of nesting area.

We pre-made these nesting box's but if we wouldn't have they would of looked a little different
and fit in a better fashion, but it's all good. We like how it's coming together.

At this point we are starting the siding with entry door to be cut out in front. It's taking shape at
this point but a long way to go.

Nesting access is a lift up door so that you can open the top and retrieve your beautiful eggs.

Sorry, the only picture I had of this scene was with me in it. We have a slanted roof and this can
be any slant you want to have. None of this build is meant to be the only way to do this but it
has come with a lot of research on chickens and it's our way of doing it. Keep your chickens safe
and keep them warm, cool in the summer time.

"Did you know chickens prefer to roost on rounded boards and not square"

We made are roosting area out of 2x4's but we split them and they have a more natural curve for
chickens feet.  We have researched a large number of coop's and we liked this design we have.
It has a lot of features from different view points from a lot of different people.

Chickens are now indoors in their home and doing well.

Well, here is a back picture of the vents were putting in.

Almost done with the coop. Need to start the pen area.

Here is the almost finished product.

Still want to bring the fenced area out another 8 feet. A little more room for my
lady's.

We made this type water source so that they really can't run out of water. You do need to
have a look make sure you don't have leaks or the bucket fell over. The end is connected
to a five gallon bucket and will be easily filled outside the coop. Stay tuned for more. Our
chicks were 12 weeks old on 6/17/2013

We are anticipating our first egg next month, atleast I'm hoping! It may not happen
but our chickens are very happy and friendly. We will have our first egg photo's on
next

More To Come
